The posthumous recipient of the Navy Cross, this U.S. Navy SEAL was killed in combat during a War of Afghanistan military initiative known as Operation Red Wings. Low on ammunitions, Murphy, Axelson and Danny Dietz were killed while Luttrell was knocked unconscious by an RPG. After finishing Sonar Technician Surface (STG) "A" School,[5] he undertook Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL training (BUD/S) and graduated with Class 237 in Coronado, California. Seems strange that they did not take the propaganda opportunity to film Axelson's body and gear.
